Suicide Prevention and Awareness is part of LAUSD’s Every School Safe training modules that
will touch on various important topics throughout the school year. In the month of September,
trainings on this topic will be available to students and teachers, as well as parents/caregivers.
Within LAUSD and across the nation, an overwhelming number of students come to school
every day with a myriad of adversities and mental health problems that compromise their
ability to learn. It is crucial to highlight the importance of mental health and taking care of
ourselves daily.
The Suicide Prevention Awareness for Parents training module encourages parents to utilize the
three steps of the Say Something program developed by Sandy Hook Promise. Parents/
caregivers will learn to SEE something or recognize the warning signs and threats of suicide and
harm, ACT immediately and take it seriously, and SAY something. The training will provide an
overview of mental health, provide tips for parents/caregivers on how to have a conversation
with their child about suicide, and will review Trusted Adults at school, and community
resources to reach out to for support.
